Frequently Asked Questions
How long does therapy take?
Both short—and long-term contracts for therapy are available. During the assessment sessions, we will agree on the type of contract that you are looking for. This will depend on your presenting difficulties and what you are looking for from therapy. In addition, we will agree on regular reviews. Each session lasts 50 minutes for standard sessions and 90 minutes for extended sessions.
Do you provide sessions for those with insurance funding?
I am a registered provider with AXA, AVIVA, Vitality, Bupa and Preferred Healthcare for 1:1 therapy sessions. Neurodevelopmental Assessments are possible, depending on your policy.
What can I expect from our therapy sessions?
Your therapy will be tailored to your individual needs, including identifying goals for treatment, which may be extended or short-term goals. The therapy will be a collaborative relationship through which you will have the time and space to talk confidentially on a one-to-one basis. Your commitment to the process is an integral part of your journey. Your therapy may focus on different aspects at different times; these could be beliefs and thoughts, emotions, behaviours, alternative options, skills development or historical understanding. The therapy may utilise several other techniques such as imagery or visualisations, bilateral stimulation, behavioural experiments and cognitive enquiry and restructuring.
When do you offer sessions?
Sessions are available Monday through Wednesday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; however, it may be possible to arrange alternative session times. Sessions are also available remotely and in person in Westerham, Kent. To find out about current availability, please contact us directly.
Who are you registered with?
I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a registered Counselling Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists, the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation (ESTD), and the National Council of Psychotherapists (NCP).
What is the difference between screening and assessment?
A screening appointment will review multiple areas of your life and what concerns you are currently experiencing. The assessment session will be structured to examine the specific thoughts, behaviours, emotions, and development of these experiences.
